Activity: Standing with Others in Need
The Mendez family wasn’t wealthy, famous or well-connected. But they reached out and found many kind people who wanted to stand with them and all children of Mexican heritage in their time of need. This group of citizens came together and used our system of government to bring justice for these families. Can you list any other people in history who were mistreated or denied justice?
Are there any groups or individuals here in Orange County that need others to stand with them? What can we do to help them get justice? Helping people doesn’t begin in courts. It begins with your neighbors, those at school or those who work around you.
Is there anyone in your school, neighborhood or workplace who needs support?
Think about their needs. Do they need food, a place to live, a friend to talk to or someone who will stand up for them when they are being bullied or mistreated?
Share with someone how you can support a neighbor in need.
When you stand with those who are in need, you are showing true compassion. It is good to help our close friends, but to support someone we don’t know makes the world a better place.
